Bronwen MacArthur received her dance training from North CarolinaSchool of the Arts and performed in New York City with the companies of Robin Becker, Gina Gibney, Bill Young, and Donna Uchizono, among others. With these companies and those of choreographers Tim Feldmann, Sara Gebran, and others based in Copenhagen, Denmark, she has taught and performed throughout Europe, the U.S. and South America. MacArthur received her B.A. from Wellesley College in 2006 and continues to teach ballet and contemporary dance at home as well as internationally.
MacArthur began choreographing in New York in 1999. Since then, her work has also been shown in Chelyabinsk, Russia, Paris, France, and throughout New England.At Yale University, she has choreographed for various operas, plays, and other multi-media events, including a production of Four Saints in Three Acts, an opera by Virgil Thomson and Gertrude Stein,and Zang Tumb Tuum!, a futurist installation at Beinecke Rare Book Library. In 2006, MacArthur co-founded, with Emily Coates, the dance theater lab Motion In Dialogue (MIND) which, in the fall of 2006, presented a dance theater interpretation of the first week of Suzan-Lori Parks' play cycle 365 Days/365 Plays. In the summer of 2007, MacArthur and Coates presented MIND's 2005 work Memory Suite at the CORD (Congress on Research in Dance)/SDHS (Society of Dance History Scholars) joint conference, "Rethinking Theory and Practice in Dance" in Paris. Last fall, MacArthur was a guest faculty member at Connecticut College and is currently co-teaching, with Coates and Joseph Roach, a seminar in the theater studies department at Yale. For this seminar, MacArthur, Coates and Roach co-directed Don't Look Back! a rock 'n roll Orpheus which was presented in the Looking Back/Looking Forward Orpheus Conference at Whitney Humanities Center at Yale.
MacArthur Dance Project was formed in January 2007 and made its debut in May of that year at ACES Arts Hall in New Haven. MacArthur Dance Project was then presented in New Haven at the Shubert Theater in May and at the International Festival of Arts and Ideas in June. Last summer, MacArthur completed a residency with Olga Pona's Chelyabinsk Theater of Contemporary Dance, from Chelyabinsk, Russia that took place in Hebron, NY. MacArthur was also a participating artist in the New England Foundation for the Arts' National Dance Project Regional Dance Development Initiative, an intensive dance lab at Connecticut College.
MacArthur Dance Project recently performed excerpts from a new work in the newly renovated Urbane Building in New Haven and took part in LIT at 100 Grand St. in New York City. This spring, MDP traveled to Bates College for the FAB Festival and to Summer Stages Boston at Concord Academy to perform and take part in exchanges between area dance artists. In April 2008, MDP performed in the Rebound Festival in New Haven and MacArthur co-produced a multimedia performance event with choreographer/director Adele Myers. This production was made possible in part by a generous grant from the LEF Foundation's Contemporary Work Fund. She has also begun work on a project with Boston-based artists Alissa Cardone, Lorraine Chapman and Nell Breyer to premiere at Summer Stages Boston in summer 2009.
CaraMarie Carboni
CaraMarie Carboni trained at the School of Performing Arts in New Milford, CT. Carboni became a trainee with Richmond Ballet, the State Ballet of Virginia, and was subsequently invited to perform with the company in ballets such as SwanLake, Romeo & Juliet, Paquita and Serenade. After two years at Richmond Ballet, Carboni attended QuinnipiacUniversity where she graduated with honors and a Masters of Occupational Therapy. During this time, she also taught and performed with New Haven Ballet. Carboni is currently an Occupational Therapist at DanburyHospital.
Laura D'Amato
Laura D’Amato began her ballet training with the New Haven Ballet, New Haven, CT. She then studied at the Nutmeg Ballet, Torrington, CT under Sharon Dante. She has performed as a guest artist with The New England Ballet, Connecticut Ballet and The New Haven Ballet where she also serves on the faculty. Currently, she studies with Christina Fagundes, formerly of ABT and is working toward her certification as a Resistance Training Specialist.
Margaret Evans
Margaret Evans has been training and performing modern dance for the last ten years in Tucson, Portland, Seattle, and New Haven.Anusara yoga, Simonson, Skinner release, ballet and contact improvisation have all been strong influences. She holds a Ph. D. in ecology and evolutionary biology, and is currently a post-doctoral fellow at YaleUniversity.She is honored to be a part of MacArthur Dance Project.
Kerry Gallagher
Kerry Gallagher trained at the School of American Ballet in NYC and at the School of Performing Arts in CT. She danced with Annamaura Silverblatt and Company and Fusionworks Repertory Company. She has been a member of Dancing Legacy and the American Dance Legacy Institute since 2005. Gallagher has worked with Laura Bennett, David Dorfman, Deidre Morris, David Parsons Company, Pilobolus and Danny Grossman among others. She is currently dancing with Classics Dance Theatre Company and MacArthur Dance Project.She is faculty at NYSSSA, Fineline Theatre Arts and Main Street Ballet. Her choreography has been performed throughout New England.
Caroline Lucy Smith
Caroline Lucy Smith is delighted to be dancing with MacArthur Dance Project.She has extensive performance experience with Perspectives in Motion (NYC/Paris), Lisbon Contemporary Dance Theatre and BalletMet Columbus.She has performed works by Lar Lubovitch, Clay Taliaferro, Jose Limon, Anna Sokolow, and Allyson Green. Smith teaches at New Haven Ballet, CT Dance School and as a guest at Yale University.Her choreography has been performed throughout New England and New York.
